Dr. Andrew J. Heritch, M.D.

Dr. Heritch is the founder of Heartland Behavioral Health, S.C. (HBH). His treatment philosophy begins with accurate diagnosis through the clinical history. Once a diagnosis is determined, Dr. Heritch develops a treatment plan tailored to each individual client's needs. He specialized in prescribing medication as well as considering psychological and social aspects of mental health which can contribute to a clients' overall sense of well-being. He works closely with Heartland's counselors to address all the clients' needs. By tailoring medication to the individual needs of the client, he maximizes benefits and minimizes side-effects. He strongly considers the clients' desires in his prescribing decisions.

Dr. Heritch received his medical degree in 1987 from St. Louis University. He did a psychiatric internship at the University of Washington in Seattle. He completed his psychiatric residency in 1992 at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He chose Medical College of Wisconsin because it offered a well-balanced training program giving him a good understanding of both medications and psychotherapy. He has published several research papers and clinical case reports.

Dr. Heritch currently resides in the Peoria area with his wife, whom he married in 1986. She home schooled their children and loved every minute of it. Now she is very involved in community life, especially with Connected Parenting, church and volunteering.
